Species under focus – Nilgiri langur

Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Zooschool’s Species Ambassador programme is a first-of-its-kind programme in the conservation of species initiated by an Indian Zoo. It is high time to empower the vital knowledge and awareness about each and every animal species and it is keen important to address the need for its conservation and awareness among the people. Arignar Anna Zoological Park centre for excellence in zoo education continues to provide high-standard conservation education programme to the public and educate the present generation in wide aspects to induce the act of conserve and love towards nature and wildlife.

The first session of the species ambassador programme during July 2021 was focused on Slender Loris, one of the less known primate threatened by myths. Species ambassador programme is a two-day programme organized on weekends. Students from class 6 and above, professionals, adults, wildlife aspirants can participate in the session. Registration for participation will be hosted on the Zoo website. Participants will be provided with e-book on species under focus. On completion of this programme, the participants will be titled ‘Species Ambassador of Species under focus “and a certificate is provided. They will be discharging their role by promoting awareness about species under focus. Different levels of special-grade badges will be awarded to the participants based on the action towards bringing awareness about the species. Species ambassador programme session –II will focus on Nilgiri langur.

Role of species ambassador

  1. To spread awareness among the public and their family and friends about the significance, threats faced by the animal and conservation measures.
  2. Building a strong supportive force on conservation of the Species under focus
  3. Conducting awareness sessions to their known people group either in online or offline mode.
  4. Continuous support will be provided by AAZP Zooschool to conduct awareness sessions and providing expert talk.
  5. Badges - Based on the number of awareness sessions conducted by the species ambassador special badges will be awarded to them on special zoo occasions.
  6. To get the badges, participants have to share the photos & video recordings for at least 5 mins of the sessions they conduct with their known contacts to aazpzooschool@gmail.com.

  1. Registration is mandatory
  2. The link to join the online session will be sent to the registered Email ID on 17.12.2021 by 5 pm
  3. For the convenience of participants outside the Chennai region, the day 2 session will also be conducted through virtual mode.
  4. For all online participants e-certificate will be sent to your registered Email ID in 5 working days
  5. Offline participants who attended the day 2 session in Zoo can collect the certificate during the valedictory function on 19.12.2021
